Accounts Payable Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE Under minimal supervision, process a high volume of vendor invoices, review expense reports via Chrome River, and process check requests. Have a thorough understanding of firm policies to ensure compliance of all expenses. Assist with training for new employees as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Review all invoices for appropriate documentation, coding, and approval prior to processing. Assist with processing urgent check requests as needed. Audit and process firm credit card monthly statements. Review for proper approval and compliance to firm policies. Understand 1099 requirements and maintain vendor profiles and vouchers to ensure accuracy of annual reporting requirements. Respond to all vendor inquiries. Reconcile vendor statements; research and correct discrepancies. Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and generally accepted accounting practices. Verify compliance of all expenses with firm policies and procedures. Review vendor invoices for compliance with sales and use tax regulations for states where Perkins Coie has a presence. Assist with other projects as needed. Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the job position, consistent with the firms attendance expectations. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Knowledge of Sales and Use Tax for various states. Must have a strong work ethic and be a self-starter. Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable. Proficient in Excel and Word, 10-key by touch. Ability to type 60-65 wpm. Possess strong organizational and time management skills. Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis, and multi-tasking skills. Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts, and corporate procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner. Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness. Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division quickly and accurately. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires an AA degree in accounting or equivalent. Requires 3+ years of Accounts Payable experience or equivalent. BA degree and professional services accounting experience preferred. This position may be filled in the following areas, the compensation range in these areas are listed below and depends on qualification and experience. Perkins Coie may provide a discretionary bonus annually and information regarding benefits can be found here.
