Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a nonprofit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. This is accomplished through research and analysis, public advocacy leadership, and partnership with the private sector. CATF is highly respected for its deep expertise and research on energy and industrial systems and potential strategies, technologies, and policies that can radically shrink their impact on the planet’s atmosphere. Our team of 100+ experts and advocates (and global network of subject matter experts and civil society partners) put this research and knowledge into action by designing and enacting public policies that drive toward zero emissions. We also support policies and work directly with private industry to innovate in technology to make the path to zero emissions swift and affordable.  CATF is headquartered in Boston, and has offices in Washington D.C. and Brussels with staff working around the world remotely.

ROLE

CATF seeks two attorneys with five or more years of relevant experience to work with our growing U.S. Legal Team. CATF attorneys support all programs in the organization by providing strategic legal advice, and engaging regulatory and litigation matters across a broad range of topical areas. The start date for this position is early in 2023. CATF’s staff of lawyers, scientists, and policy analysts work to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change, reducing atmospheric pollution, and promoting efforts to transition carefully and justly to a carbon neutral economy, while ensuring energy access to all. CATF’s Legal Team engages actively with state and federal administrative policy matters and represents clients in litigation.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

As part of CATF’s Legal Team, the Attorney will work under the direction of CATF’s Legal Director and with other attorneys, alongside other CATF program staff on all phases of our advocacy efforts, from providing strategic legal or policy advice to programs as they seek to engage ongoing and new opportunities.  The work ranges from overseeing careful rulemaking administrative record building, and case strategy development, to engagement in litigation, where appropriate. Our attorneys engage in both state and federal processes as needed. The attorney may represent CATF’s clients and will have the ability to work as needed on policy analysis, legal matters, writing, strategic analysis, and problem-solving in specific matters. The attorney will be supported by and will help manage entry level attorneys and supporting staff working as part of the Legal Team. The attorney will be asked to work with CATF’s Development and Communications Teams on projects that support and communicate the organization’s funding and mission.

Compensation and Location:

This is a full-time, remote position, flexible within the U.S. CATF offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience.
