The Opinions Bureau is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Attorney General. The Opinions Bureau is responsible for advising State officers and State’s Attorneys on matters related to their official duties, often in the form of written legal opinions. The issues addressed by the Opinions Bureau include civil and criminal matters, the application of State and Federal law, and the construction of statutory and constitutional provisions and administrative rules. Assistant Attorneys General in the Opinions Bureau are responsible for researching assigned legal issues and drafting proposed responses, as well as responding to telephone inquiries from members of the public.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, the salary starts at $73,548. Candidates must be licensed by the State of Illinois at the time of application.


Candidates must have excellent research and writing skills, possess sound judgment, work well independently, and demonstrate an interest in public service. An ideal candidate will have former judicial clerkship experience or at least two years of government legal practice.
