The Workers’ Compensation Bureau provides a healthy work/life balance, a collaborative work environment, mentorship and opportunities for immediate trial and litigation experience.

Our Bureau defends the State of Illinois in workers’ compensation claims filed by State employees before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. In addition, the Bureau prosecutes employers under the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act for failure to maintain workers’ compensation insurance coverage for employees. This provides significant opportunities to learn and gain experience in both litigation defense and prosecution. The Bureau also defends claims filed against various State Funds, which provides opportunities for litigation experience before both the Commission and Illinois Circuit Courts. 

Requirements

An Assistant Attorney General in the Workers’ Compensation Bureau individually investigates and handles a wide variety of legal and factual matters before an administrative agency in a collaborative work environment. Assistant Attorneys General investigate workers’ compensation claims, gather evidence, manage settlements, present witnesses, argue motions, and represent the State of Illinois  before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. Prior workers’ compensation insurance experience is not required. 

Salaries are commensurate with experience and start at $76,008.
