GENERAL PURPOSE The Data Governance Manager will be a change agent who will develop and implement firm-wide data governance practices at the firm. They will work with the firm's leadership to develop policies for managing and using critical data elements that are common across systems. They will coordinate interests and efforts across a wide array of data initiatives to ensure consistent and reusable data. They will work with firm leadership to develop policies for using data in an in ethical manner consistent with law, regulation, and agreements. The Data Governance Manager will serve as a point of escalation for data governance issues and initiatives, and will work closely with business, functional and technology leadership to improve the quality and value of firm's data assets. As a liaison to business and technology teams across the organization, this individual will collect and align policies, standards, and procedures to further enable data governance capabilities. They would also be responsible for developing and delivering a program to increase data literacy across the firm. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Facilitates development and implementation of data standards, definitions and understanding across the enterprise. Coordinates across the Data Governance Board, Data Governance Council, and Data Governance Working Group to ensure activities aligns with business priorities. Design, develop, and deliver a data literacy program to ensure that basic understanding across the firm on how to use data within a business context. Serves as a liaison between business and technical stakeholders to ensure that requirements for sharing and using data are clearly communicated and considered as part of initiative planning. Engages support resources and subject matter experts as needed. Develops efficient processes to enable an organization to utilize different kinds of data (operational, analytical, and transactional). Works with departmental leaders to establish policies and guidelines to resolve data discrepancy and metadata issues. Mentors and supports development of appropriate training methods and communications to implement the data governance across the enterprise Defines and oversees the data literacy program. Ensures ongoing assessment, and maintenance of standards of data governance processes. Works closely with the Security Team in developing and implementing data sharing guidelines internally and externally. Generates position papers and/or recommendations on process improvements, and tools. Perform fit/gap analysis of business requirements and current or proposed solutions. Develop data governance policies and standards. Facilitate and collaborate with data stewards to define enterprise business terms and assist with bringing resolution to data quality concerns and issues. Work directly with business partners to establish enterprise business data domains, ownership, and stewardship. Integrates strategic initiatives with current and planned data governance initiatives and maintain integrity and ensure efficiency. Works closely with the Security Team in developing and implementing data sharing guidelines internally and externally. TRAVEL This position may require periodic travel. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Broad technical knowledge of the line of business systems and processes used in large law firms. Understanding of the laws, regulations, and ethics regarding data management and usage. Expert ability to identify, interpret and resolve data issues. Ability to formulate roadmaps to achieve long-range outcomes. Ability to formulate communication strategies and develop training materials. Ability to build partnerships across business and technical teams. Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Ability to communicate complex concepts with business partners at multiple levels with ease, clarity, and transparency. Ability to prioritize work based on importance, urgency, or business impact. Ability to collect, analyze, and prioritize requirements. Requires impeccable judgment and discretion. SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED Working knowledge of data processing technologies and patterns, such as using SQL Server Integration Services to perform Extract, Transform, and Load processes. Working knowledge of data visualization platforms, such as Power BI and Tableau. Working knowledge of data analytics within a professional services context. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelors degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline. Applicable experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Certified Information Governance Professional (IGP) or similar certification or equivalent experience. Five or more years of experience in a professional services firm, with large-scale data or project management and oversight experience. Five or more years of experience facilitating cross-functional collaboration. Expert knowledge of how data is used within the business context of a law firm. Expert knowledge of data governance practices, business and technology issues related to the sharing, processing, and usage of enterprise information assets. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and emerging trends relating to data. Expert knowledge of data architecture and technology solutions #TechDept
