We are looking for a Director and Counsel of Privacy Compliance to oversee the firms Internal Data Protection program. This role will work cross-functionally with key stakeholders across the firm, including in our Legal, Information Security, Marketing, and Human Resources departments. This position will function in a hybrid working environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Work closely with internal stakeholders to develop, monitor, and update policies and standards applicable to the business and in compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations. Monitor changes to local, national, and international privacy laws and make recommendations to the Legal department, Information Technology, Security & Privacy team, and the Information Governance & Security program. Lead privacy-related initiatives and conduct the day-to-day administration and management of the firms Privacy program. This includes maintaining data maps/records of processing, overseeing the firms privacy rights request processes, conducting privacy impact assessments, and developing and leading privacy trainings. Act as subject matter expert with respect to client privacy audit and compliance requests. In collaboration with the firms Privacy & Security practice group, develop and maintain firm privacy templates, including firm data processing/protection agreements and standard contractual clauses. Maintain and update the firms online personnel and client-facing privacy policies. Working with the firms Procurement group, oversee the privacy contracting function. In addition to contract review and negotiation of firm vendor contracts, this role will develop and administer a programmatic approach to the process, including training, playbook development, and privacy advice/counseling. Working with firm lawyers, review and negotiate client business associate agreements. Develop and deliver firm-wide privacy and compliance training as needed. Develop strategies and initiatives to ensure engagement on privacy issues with key internal and external stakeholders. In coordination with the internal Legal department, Information Technology, Security & Privacy team, and Information Governance program functions, participate and advise in investigating and/or responding to data breaches or loss. Promote effective work practices, work as a team member, and show respect for co-workers. TRAVEL This position requires travel from time to time as needed. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Advanced knowledge of major privacy frameworks and evolving legislation worldwide, including but not limited to U.S. state privacy laws (such as the CCPA and CPRA), and the EUs GDPR. Strong knowledge of information technology and data management systems required. Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm. Project management skills, including the ability to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively, seeking and developing alignments and support, as well as the use of independent judgment and discretion when making the majority of decisions. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED Familiarity with HIPAA is a plus, but not a requirement. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Juris doctor with active license in at least one jurisdiction. 5-6 years privacy-related counseling. Experience in developing policy and compliance training. Hold at least one data protection and/or privacy certification (preferred).
