GENERAL PURPOSE Perform editing, proofreading, cite-checking, redlining and word processing functions to ensure the highest level of accuracy and professionalism in documents produced by attorneys, paralegals, and client development staff across the firm's national practice groups. Please note this position is fully remote and shift ends at 7pm (PT). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that an Editor III must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Essential Functions: Perform editing, cite-checking, and word processing functions to ensure the highest level of accuracy and professionalism in documents produced by attorneys and staff firmwide. Edit various types of documents, including legal documents, promotional pieces, and informational materials, correct problems relating to formatting, spelling, grammar, consistency, diction, logic, sense, and factual accuracy. Effectively use operational tools including: Outlook, WebEx, iManage, and Service Now (workflow tool) -- according to established protocols. Adhere to best practices for completing tasks, which may include enhanced utilization of firm software. Capture project time and data as required to produce operational reports and metrics. Ability and desire to work as part of a centrally managed team. Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects efficiently and simultaneously. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY Use established and well-known editing/proofreading procedures and grammar guidelines under limited supervision. Be able to handle multiple projects and deadlines and work well under pressure both independently and with others. Handle email requests and telephone calls from national practice group staff, paralegals and attorneys and the client development department. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Familiarity with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. [Cite-check training will be provided.] Knowledge of various style guides and reference sources, such as the Associated Press Stylebook, The Chicago Manual of Style, and The Gregg Reference Manual. Training in editing and proofreading techniques. Training in intermediate word processing techniques. Familiarity with the conventions and requirements of different types of documents. Ability to understand technical and complex materials, and to verify facts using Internet and other reference sources. Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines, to work well under pressure, to work both independently and with others, and to focus for long periods on repetitive materials. Ability to complete cite-checking work requests within 90 days of hire. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Bachelor's degree in English or related subject and at least two years of experience as an editor, or equivalent. Colorado compensation range: $ 55,920 to $81,830 annually New York compensation range: $64,890 to $94,950 annually These ranges are specific to Colorado and New York, depending on qualification and experience. These ranges may not be applicable to other locations. Perkins Coie may provide a discretionary bonus annually and information regarding benefits can be found here.
