ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Assist lawyers with all phases of case support including document/information management, factual and legal research and analysis, discovery, briefings, hearings, and trial support. Maintain positive contact with clients, lawyers and staff, and observe confidentiality of client matters. Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, other documents and attorney notebooks. Review and synthesize historical documents. Summarize articles, reports, witness statements, and depositions. Manage source code reviews with an understanding of the provisions of protective orders and e-discovery orders/stipulations for input to attorneys to ensure all procedures are met per client instructions. Keep accurate time records. Coordinate and attend client conferences, , hearings, and trials. Prepare material for in-house and outside distribution. Draft legal documents and correspondence. Train and coordinate workloads of subordinate paralegal assistants as needed. Keep track of case/matter deadlines and interface with partners on case teams regularly to ensure deadlines are being met. Assist with budget monitoring. Maintain departmental form files and systems. Ability to conduct cite checking of briefs, motions, memoranda, and other legal documents Perform computer database input and retrieval with an emphasis on proficiency with e-discovery platforms including but not limited to DISCO and Relativity. A thorough knowledge of the e-discovery process and understanding of each phase is necessary to instruct and advise on an e-discovery litigation plan from early case assessment though the production phase. Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the job position, consistent with the Firm's attendance expectations. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Through knowledge of all phases of litigation, discovery, and trial procedures. Demonstrated skills in document information management. Ability to express self effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish effective working relationships with Firm lawyers and staff, client personnel, and other professionals. Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Sound knowledge of library operations and records storage procedures. Ability to handle multiple tasks, multiple concurrent deadlines, work well under pressure and independently. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to exercise discretion and independent judgment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires bachelor's degree and a minimum of seven to ten years of paralegal experience. Paralegal certificate required. Experience in patent litigation, experience with the inter-workings of the U. S. Patent Office, and experience with patent litigation matters before the International Trade Commission is a plus, but not required. Experience with automated litigation support software is required.
