The Firms Practice and Knowledge Management Department is seeking a Knowledge Management Attorney (KM Attorney) to support primarily the needs of the ERISA Complex Litigation practice group along with other practice groups and firmwide KM projects.

Ideally, this position is located in the firms New Orleans office. Consideration may be given to someone who wishes to work in another city where Jackson Lewis has an office. This position reports to the Co-Chairs of the ERISA Complex Litigation Group, the Director of Practice & Knowledge Management, and to other Jackson Lewis Practice Group Leaders. The KM Attorney is an integral member of the firm, though not in a traditional billing attorney role.

Drawing on their expertise, and working with the Co-Chairs of the ERISA Complex Litigation Group, the Director of Practice & Knowledge Management, and other KM attorneys and staff, KM Attorney responsibilities include:

Determine the ERISA Complex Litigation Groups KM goals and establish and implement a plan to meet those objectives and to review and assess frequently through feedback.

Monitor and communicate recent developments relevant to the Practice Groups work and areas of focus. For ERISA focused work, daily monitoring of new developments in the ERISA case law fields where the ERISA Complex Litigation Group members are litigating.

Assist the Practice Group and Firm with writing, publishing, and preparation of presentations, speeches, PowerPoints, articles, blogs, and webinars on ERISA litigation and other employment law topics.

Maintain content of the Practice Groups intranet page, ensuring that it is readily accessible, current, and accurate.

Build and maintain a content library, to include model documents, forms, precedents, practice checklists, and related resources; work with appropriate teams to develop efficient means for replicating documents through available technology, such as document assembly and automation.

In the ERISA litigation space, maintain updated spreadsheets tracking major ERISA class actions, caselaw developments, client pitches, expert witness developments, and other evolving trends in the ERISA class action practice area, including ESOP work.

Develop internal training programs and materials to foster top-quality lawyering by all members of the Practice Group; coordinate with Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Specialists and Professional Development staff.

Maintain a strong understanding of Practice Group members experience and subject matter expertise to assist Practice Group Leaders with ensuring matters are handled in the appropriate locations by lawyers best suited to handle the matter.

Assist Practice Group Leaders with regular attorney meetings to ensure that all members of the Practice Group are fully engaged and motivated, updated legal knowledge is disseminated among the attorneys within the ERISA Complex Litigation Group, and that the work of the Practice Group is accomplished.

Work with the Practice Group Leaders and Marketing and Business Development to develop external marketing programs to be used throughout the country to highlight the Practice Groups substantive areas and develop new business.

Assist Practice Group Leaderswith key business development efforts, including, but not limited to, assistance with request for proposal (RFP) responses, pitch presentations, writing and organizing practice group members articles and blogs posts, engaging on social media, preparing marketing presentations, webinars, and responses to media outlets.

For ERISA focused work, daily work on new case solicitations, including monitoring the filings of every ERISA class action case filed, determining whether we have client contacts, drafting materials for use with the firms clients and insurers in order to obtain new case representations. This involves monitoring newly filed cases at least twice daily and leading efforts to assist Practice Group leadership in soliciting new work for the ERISA Complex Litigation Group.

Work directly with pitch teams to convey an understanding of the value of the Practice Group to clients or potential clients; assist in providing data and responding to proposal requests, preparing for pitch meetings; coordinating with the groups Business Development Manager and the proposal team.

Work directly with the Marketing and Business Development department to develop external facing documents regarding the Practice Groups capabilities and experience.

Assist with managing legal research projects.

Assist in identifying possible tools for internal and external use based on Practice Groups focus.

Provide additional information and assistance to advance the interests of the Practice Group and its members.

Assist with development of and progress of Practice Group initiatives and other special projects.

Work with Practice and Industry Group Coordinators (PIGC) and delegate practice group related administrative work to PIGCs.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include: Minimum of three to eight years experience engaged in employment law litigation preferred; Class Action experience is a bonus, as is ERISA experience, however, neither class action nor ERISA expertise are mandatory. However, if no employment law background, complex litigation background, with an emphasis on federal court skills is a plus. Also necessary are excellent writing and communication skills; passion for knowledge-sharing, organizational skills, efficiency, and excellence in legal work; initiative and ability to work independently.
