GENERAL PURPOSE The San Francisco office of Perkins Coie has an immediate opening for a Legal Practice Assistant in our busy Patent Litigation practice group. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3+ years of litigation experience in a law firm environment. Patent litigation experience is strongly preferred. Candidate must have excellent communication skills, computer skills, and organizational skills. This position will provide highly varied and complex administrative support, with minimal supervision, to designated attorneys and to the San Francisco Litigation practice group. As a member of the business professionals team, this position will promote and maintain the goodwill and reputation of the firm and maintain the highest level of professional conduct and confidentiality. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Preparing documents for state and federal court filings (including state and federal appeals courts), letters, and other documents. Setting up and maintaining case files. Scheduling and travel coordination. Assisting with time entry and prebill review. Generating pleadings and briefs, including Tables of Contents and Authorities. Prioritizing workflow with flexibility to handle last minute filings. Familiarity with ITC filings and filing IPRs in the PTAB are a plus. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Strong knowledge of state and federal court rules. Ability to accurately type 65 wpm. Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. Establishing effective working relationships throughout operational groups. Strong command of the English language, including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form, and style. Strong knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel, and familiarity with basic office equipment. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize workload. Ability to compose correspondence, and thorough understanding of pertinent legal terminology and procedures are also required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, as well as three or more years of litigation experience in a law firm environment. Patent litigation experience strongly preferred.
