GENERAL PURPOSE Perkins Coie LLP, an international law firm, is seeking a Practice Group Support Intern to join the Commercial LitigationGovernment Contracts group in its Washington D.C. office. The ideal candidate is someone interested in going to law school. SCHEDULE Monday - Friday: 10:00 a.m. 6:30 p.m., with a 60-minute lunch and 15-minute morning/afternoon breaks. Flexibility with hours worked, including frequent overtime, is required for this position. This position offers a hybrid (mixed in-office and remote) work schedule. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This entry-level position will provide critical administrative and paralegal support to specific attorneys in the Government Contracts practice group, including practice and client management activities. The duties require an individual with skills and experience using a variety of software applications, and working knowledge of their available functions (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and Adobe). The individual will be responsible for performing the following duties, among others: Create, compare, format, convert, and edit files from various sources in accordance with attorneys instructions ensuring accuracy, consistency, and accessibility. Prepare, edit, proofread, and finalize correspondence, client bills, filings, and other documents in a timely and accurate manner. Proactively coordinate and follow up with firm personnel in billing, marketing, records, IT, conflicts, and others on issues affecting client matters and attorney activity. Review client pre-bills, cross-reference attorney entries, and recommend edits for attorney review. Prepare and update client budgets for attorney review and distribute to clients as directed. Handle new client/matter paperwork and manage, track, and coordinate client conflicts on an ongoing basis. Perform factual research and analysis as requested, and prepare tailored work products based on attorneys intended use. Effectively communicate information orally and in writing to clients, attorneys, and third parties clearly and with a professional tone. Manage and monitor attorney file organization, storage, tracking, labeling, and maintenance. Locate, organize, and compile documents in preparation for witness interviews, meetings, depositions, hearings, and other events. Create, assemble, update, and maintain electronic and hardcopy binders of voluminous documents. Coordinate and schedule trainings, presentations, meetings, travel, reservations, and all other events for attorneys, as requested, including necessary logistics. Assist attorneys with time entry, expense reimbursement requests, calendaring, and other administrative tasks, as needed. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Proficiency with standard MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Adobe Professional. Proficiency with document formatting tools including Word Styles and Numbering. Strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to express oneself effectively, and excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling are required. Keen attention to detail with excellent proofreading and quality control skills. The ability to work effectively in teams and independently, with limited direction on complex tasks. Effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple, simultaneous, deadlines, and organize and track legal documents. Must possess a strong work ethic and strong problem-solving capabilities. U.S. citizenship is required, due to the sensitive nature of the work this role will support. Qualified candidates will be required to take technical tests to determine if the firms proficiency standards are met. SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED 1-2 years of paralegal experience or other experience working in a law firm or corporate setting. Familiarity with document management systems and a strong understanding of (and interest in) the legal industry and/or government contracts. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelors degree required.
