GENERAL PURPOSE Industry Operations managers serve as the staff focal point for the firms industries and provide management support and advisory services to one or more industry groups. Responsible for providing and/or ensuring the well-coordinated operational support for the firms industries. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Must demonstrate knowledge, expertise, and judgement in performing assigned tasks and procedures. Performs complex tasks and exercises independent judgement. Create, maintain, and nurture strong working relationships between the industry group, the related practice and subgroups, practice management, functional administrative groups, and outside vendors. Act as a liaison for attorneys, administrative staff, and office administrators regarding best practices in the industry. Collaborate with office, administrative and practice groups and subgroups chairs as required. The scope of responsibilities includes a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following: Marketing Interface with Marketing to ensure website branding, blog content, conference attendance/sponsorship, and industry engagement is successful, accurate and effective Coordinate with Marketing regarding conference attendance and sponsorship Collaborate on the development of the industry client list In collaboration with knowledge management and other contributors, manage further development of the groups knowledge database to create a one-stop-shop for work product on substantive topics, pitches and/or presentations Maintain working knowledge of variety of different areas of law and scopes of work to vet potential client opportunities Assess quality of industry group scopes of work and present findings Operations Oversee the logistics of the Major/Minor program for training associates. Manage overall operations of the industry group as well as a variety of tactical support projects as directed by the industry chairs Manage the tracking, allocation and reporting of work performed by the groups lawyers to ensure proper support of lawyers who need non-lawyer support Collaborate with the practice management team in the further development of workflow tools Coordinate training and communications plans as needed to increase utilization and adoption of procedures and technology Finance Collaborate with various parts of the organization to track and document areas of work and financial performance against goals, and hold group members accountable for these goals Collaborate with practice groups, subgroups, and finance regarding invoicing and collections; lead efforts to maintain high collections of invoiced fees Manage matter statistical allocation analysis model Collaborate with practice groups and subgroups to prepare reports of associate pace and utilization, financial performance, and collections goals Collaborate with the practice groups and subgroups and the billing department to communicate with attorneys regarding delinquent accounts and manage the follow-through for collecting outstanding amounts Pricing/LPM Coordinate with the practice management, pricing, and proposals teams to manage and establish alternative fee arrangements and project budgets Manage the review and approval process related to discounts and alternative fee arrangements Work with practice groups on the initiation and approval of Secondments Strategic & Business Planning Work with industry chairs in developing and implementing strategic initiatives as well as vetting and visiting prospective and current clients Work with vertical leads to develop business plans that align with the firms strategic plan Conduct the annual review and update of the groups strategic plan Manage and execute on business plan goals and tasks Oversee a variety of tactical support projects Maintain knowledge of legal technology and innovation within the law profession and identify opportunities to apply best practices to the industry Research, identify, develop, and manage special projects and initiatives Take a lead role in the development of content for industry retreats Develop content and agendas for meetings and conferences agendas Coordinate and attend weekly calls, while also creating the agenda, tracking action items and metrics to optimize team performance, and handle the reporting of results/action items. Manage and maintain area of law codes Collaborate with multiple administrative departments to address industry needs and ensure initiatives are in-line with the industrys strategy In coordination with Practice and Subgroup leadership, assist Practice Management, Lateral Recruitment and HR with the identification of new hire candidates for both partner and associate-level hires. TRAVEL Occasional travel required to firm offices to support the industries and to meet with chair(s) who do not reside in the same office as the industry operations manager. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Prioritizing and managing multiple complex operations or projects at one time, with consistent attention to detail; excellent written and oral communication skills; proficient use of MS Office applications, project management software and techniques; adept in using the internet and standard database functions as well as PowerPoint. SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED Knowledge of law firm operations or familiarity with professional services environments. Marketing background and relevant industry experience are a plus. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Requires a bachelors degree and a solid understanding of the business of law and/or a minimum of five years of applicable experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA or JD preferred. This position may be filled in Colorado or New York. These ranges are specific to Colorado and New York, depending on qualification and experience and may not be applicable to other locations. Colorado compensation range: $111,190 to $173,630 annually. New York compensation range: $129,020 to $201,470 annually. Perkins Coie may provide a discretionary bonus annually and information regarding benefits can be found here.
