GENERAL PURPOSE Support attorneys in the Environment, Energy & Resources (EER) practice group in various aspects of their practices including legal and factual research, writing, editing, and cite checking, title review, and administrative agency and court filings. Under general supervision, assist lawyers with document and information management, factual analysis, discovery, and trial support. Note that some travel may be required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Will assist litigation lawyers with all phases of litigation case support including document/information management, factual analysis, discovery, and trial support. Will assist environmental and real estate lawyers with mining, renewable energy, and real estate matters including title review, closing checklists, and administrative agency filings. Collect and organize court opinions, statutes, regulations, guidance, and policy papers relating to issues raised in administrative proceedings and litigation. Proofread, cite check, and assist in preparation of legal memoranda and exhibits for administrative proceedings and litigation. Maintain positive contact with clients and observe confidentiality of client matters. Organize and maintain case files, pleadings, and other documents and attorney notebooks. Summarize articles, reports, witness statements, and depositions. Conduct factual research and analysis. Keep accurate time records. Prepare case/matter notebooks. Perform factual and legal research. Coordinate and attend client conferences, document productions, depositions, closings, and other transactions. Prepare material for in-house and outside distribution. Draft and revise legal documents and correspondence. Coordinate service of process and/or filings with public entities. Obtain information from clients and third parties, including governmental agencies. Keep track of case/matter deadlines. Maintain departmental form files and systems. Perform computer database input and retrieval. Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the job position, consistent with the firms attendance expectations. Flexibility to work in various groups as needed SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Proficiency in legal research databases including Westlaw, Lexis, and HeinOnline, as well as federal government online databases. Thorough knowledge of all phases of litigation, discovery, and trial procedures. Thorough knowledge of mining, renewable energy, and real estate matters including title review, closing checklists, and administrative agency filings. Demonstrated proficiency with document/information management. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. General word processing skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Proficiency in Adobe. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments from different attorneys. SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED Familiarity with administrative, environmental, energy, mining, renewable energy, and real estate law and policy. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A bachelors degree and 7-10 years of paralegal experience is required in the area of administrative, environmental, and energy law and policy. Experience with automated litigation support software preferred.
