GENERAL PURPOSE Perkins Coie is seeking an engineer to join the Technology Infrastructure Engineering & Operations team. The engineer will participate in architecting, designing, and supporting the Azure cloud platform in conjunction with on-premises infrastructure that supports multiple application stacks that run the business. This position will provide subject-matter expertise for current and future planning, technical architectures, models, and standards. The engineer will work closely with members of the Enterprise Operations, Data Operations, Infrastructure, and Security teams to ensure a cohesive enterprise strategy and direction. This position will be part of a team that currently supports compute, storage, and Active Directory both in Azure as well as our on-premises data centers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation. Translate business objectives and requirements into practical, efficient, and intuitive computing architectures. Able to bridge the gap between complicated business challenges and effective cloud-based solutions. Develop and socialize the design, development, and deployment of solutions for application and service migration to cloud infrastructure. Work closely with the IT Security team to ensure data protection and security. Work closely with Information Governance to ensure that the system complies with relevant privacy regulations. Configure cloud services to integrate seamlessly and securely with on-premises data sources. Work closely with team members across the IT organization, not only for strategic planning, but also for the technical work of building, deploying, and migrating applications. Establish monitoring and alerting criteria and assist in selecting and implementing appropriate tools/vendors. Listening, drawing out key concepts, and articulating advanced technical and non-technical concepts with ease (both written and oral formats) to customers, peers, and management at several levels, and across the organization. Create dashboards and reports to communicate key metrics for managed systems. Collaborate with development teams to promote the concept of reliability engineering during all phases of the software development lifecycle to detect and correct performance issues and meet availability goals. Design, code, test, and deliver software to automate manual operational work. Participate in operational support and on-call rotation shifts for supported systems and products. Conduct blameless postmortems to identify procedural and technical gaps and address them. Perform analytics on previous incidents to understand root causes and better predict and prevent future issues. Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the position, consistent with the Firms attendance expectations. TRAVEL This position may require travel. SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED Extensive in-depth knowledge in cloud/hybrid environments, primarily Azure, and migrating on-premises applications and services to those platforms. Strong working knowledge of networking and data storage concepts in a hybrid environment. Experience with building and maintaining high-availability (>99.99%) environments and disaster recovery for cloud and on-prem services. Ability to automate repeatable tasks and/or processes. Extensive experience working with Active Directory and Group Policy. Excellent analytical and organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills in preparing reports, presentations, and documentation. Experience with programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell). Experience with incident and response management. SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED Ability to meet deadlines, conduct and direct research into IT issues and products, and take initiative in the development and completion of projects. Strong project and time management skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage, counsel, or mentor others, including contractors and vendors. Proficiency in advocating ideas to business leaders. Experience with containerization solutions and orchestration platforms, such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc. Strong knowledge of using Azure blueprints, templates, initiatives, policies, and automation. Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Elastic, Solar Winds, or Azure Monitoring. Experience with configuration management systems (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Terraform). Experience working with continuous integration/continuous deployment tools (e.g., Git). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience. 7 plus years of general technology experience; law firm experience a plus. 4 plus years serving as an engineer or similar position responsible for cloud as well as on-premises infrastructure design and implementation. Relevant technical certifications are a plus.
