The Office of the Illinois Attorney General is seeking to fill a supervisory position in its Constitutional and Civil Rights Litigation Unit within the General Law Bureau. Attorneys in this Unit defend the State of Illinois, its officers, agencies, and employees in civil rights actions and in other complex litigation involving the federal or state constitutions and federal statutes. Areas of law that this Unit deals with include: Free Speech, Religious Freedom, Equal Protection, Substantive and Procedural Due Process, Second Amendment, Search and Seizure, State Election Law, as well as federal constitutional challenges to state statutes and administrative regulations.

In addition to handling cases, the Unit Supervisor is responsible for supervising and mentoring other attorneys assigned to the Constitutional and Civil Rights Litigation Unit, which includes reviewing the work of other attorneys in the Unit as well as providing technical and legal advice and direction to them.

Salary Commensurate with the candidate’s experience.

Requirements

Candidates must have excellent legal research and writing skills, extensive state and federal jury trial experience, and significant management experience. Candidates must be licensed by the State of Illinois and have 10 or more years of litigation experience, preferably with significant experience with federal constitutional or civil rights litigation.
