We have an exciting opportunity for a Practice Group Manager in the firm’s Intellectual Property group. We are searching for someone who wants to be a valued contributor and member of a talented and dynamic team of lawyers, paralegals and business professionals.

The US-IP Practice Group Manager is responsible for Firm-wide intellectual property operations, staffing, and financial management. The US-IP Practice Group Manager assists in developing and implementing the strategic direction of the US-IP group and plays a key role in development, growth and performance of personnel and development including implementation of systems that facilitate IP practice group optimum performance. The Practice Group Manager collaborates with Firm Operations Managers in offices outside the U.S. to facilitate seamless global IP operations. The IP Practice Group is comprehensive and encompasses patent, trademark copyright, and trade secret as well as litigation, prosecution, and transactions.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Partners with practice group leadership and finance on preparation and implementation of IP group strategic business plan including practice group financial targets and performance, staffing, and operations.
• Creates and tracks litigation and prosecution processing metrics and provides statistical reporting to practice group leadership and timekeepers.
• Manages IP business professionals and paralegals for entire US-IP practice group, including prosecution and litigation.
• Partners with Human Resources on new hire recruiting and onboarding for IP business professionals and paralegals.
• Creates and implements practice group staff policies and procedures.
• Creates and implements training and development programs for practice group staff.
• Collaborates with practice group leadership and Human Resources in defining business professional roles and responsibilities.
• Oversees IP docketing staff, protocols, and system procurement, development and implementation in accordance with or in excess of market standards.
• Manages business professionals’ workload allocation, overtime and cross-office support.
• Manages new attorney, agent, paralegal and business professional training.
• Partners with Human Resources on business professionals and paralegal relations and performance management.
• Serves as a point person to lead operational processes and system/tool maintenance and changes, maintains best practices and standards and improves service quality and timeliness, productivity, and cost effectiveness efforts.
• Creates standard and consistent operational practices across US-IP practice group regardless of office locations.
• Partners with practice group leadership alongside TIS and IP technology procurement, maintenance, enhancements, upgrades, and training.
• Manages development and maintenance of a central repository of client instructions and forms.
• Partners with IP practice group Client and Practice Development Director on various practice group activities (such as client development, working committees, and team building).
• Oversees prosecution annuity and maintenance outsourcing procedures and compliance with Firm policy.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree is required from an accredited college or university.
• Seven to ten years of experience working in an IP department in a similarly sized, multi-office professional services organization. Must have at least five years of supervisory experience with the ability to mentor and manage individuals to grow in their profession.
• Excellent written/verbal communication and project management skills.
• Takes initiative with internal clients and works in a fast-paced team environment.
• Able to manage multiple demands, priorities and deadlines. Attention to detail and excellent judgement. Good problem-solving skills and works well as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational, computer, and interpersonal skills are required.
• Familiarity with document and information management software systems as well as intellectual property specific software systems and vendors including patent and trademark prosecution and litigation docketing, document management, work-flow, information management, and invoicing systems and services is a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook, are required.

Salary is commensurate with years of relevant experience & geographic location. The range for this position is $110,000 - $210,000. This position may be based in any of our U.S. office locations.
